Ridgecrest to Lone Pine Day 10

Mileage:  78.5
Total Ascend:  2736

It was a good day today.  We had long mileage but not a lot of climbing.  Then we ended up with a tail wind around mile 40 which took us into Lone Pine.  What a fabulous tailwind.  I was going so fast that I wasnt even pedaling.  30 mph.  Awesome!

Lone Pine is a cute little town a couple of blocks long with Mount Whitney in the background.
Mt Whitney is in the middle of this picture  Its the large hump to the right of the other litte humps.  A lot of the hikers start from Lone Pine and hike to the top.  Its a 22 mile strenuous hike.  The highest point of Mt Whitney is 14,505.

Along the backroads it doesn't look like anyone lives around there and then you see a line of mailboxes and a narrow dirt road.  Then you realize there are many families that live in the area.

Welcome to the Eastern Sierra Mountain range.

Snow still showing on the tops of the Eastern Sierra mountains.  Not much though.

Pam is one of our riders/sag drivers,  Here she is waiting to check us off as we come in for water and snacks.  We have 2 other rider/sag drivers and I'll get a picture of them on their next sag turn.  They do an incredible job of keeping track and taking care of us.  We couldn't do it without them.

Gail - my riding buddy.
